'There is a heaven after death. I've been there and I know" (Sailing into the sunset)

"For centuries in Europe, people debated the question as to whether there was a land beyond the western horizon, beyond the sunset. SOme said there was, others expressed their doubts. Then one day Columbus and his men sailed out from Europe across the vast Atlantic Ocean into the sunset. When they returned they could say, 'we've been there and we know'.

In the same way, for generations people have debated the question of life after death. Some have said, 'Yes, there is life beyond the grave', others have denied it, 'No there isn't.' Then one day Jesus sailed out into that 'undiscovered country', and he came back, and in coming back, still says to us, in Isaac Watts' verse:

There is a land of pure delight
Where saints immortal reign;
Infinite day excludes the night
And pleasures banish pain.

'There is a heaven after death. I've been there and I know!' "

(From 'Heaven and Hell' Bruce Milne)

Funny things happened when I went onto that site - guess it might have a virus attached? - so I won't be recommending that others go on it.

Anyway these are quite impressive but not as impressive as the following life after death story:

2009 yrs after death: Jesus' resurrection celebrated

2010 yrs after death: Jesus' resurrection celebrated

2011 yrs after death: Jesus' resurrection celebrated

.....

1 million yrs after death: Jesus' resurrection celebrated

Get the message?

Surely in 2009 it is approx. 1970 since Jesus is supposed to have risen from the dead...

And Tut Tue, Neal -

"Get the message?"

You really do show your true colours from time to time. Jesus rose from the dead - YOU believe. But there is scant evidence to say he did; but the rest of the world has to 'get the message'.

It is odd how many of those who like to portray themselves as 'Doves' are really 'Hawks'...

Someone shared the following on my Facebook page today. Given the American bias of much of the theology/personal views on this blog I thought I'd pass it on.

It is a sad truth (for you, not me) that the more liberal (and here I mean politcally) a society the better quality of life enjoyed by its members: whereas the more religious a society - particularly when that religion is monotheistic - the greater the divisions in a society; America is a case in point as the following demonstrate.

I pass this on as an interesting aside - I probably wouldn't hold with all the views of the film itself (though I have yet to see it). Whatever Christians of certain flavours do little to win over the hearts and minds of non-believers. The are aspects of this blog that hint at reasons why that is the case.

Given, Neil, Evangelism is your job I thought you might be interested in this...

P.S. re the above about 'after the death of Jesus' - Jesus is supposed to have died some time around 30-33AD so it is about 1970 odd years after his death. Or do you calculate it differently? It doesn't really matter - I'm just curious about all the 2009, 2010 stuff. But A.D. stands for Anno Domini - usually translated as 'In the Year of Our Lord' meaning no such thing as death. Some people think AD stands for 'After Death' but of course in Latin that would be Post Mortum.
(1) Re the point about the year of Jesus' death - point taken - but my argument still stands in that when 2009 years since His death has passed, his resurrection will be celebrated. When 1 million years has passed since Jesus' death, his resurrection will still be celebrated!

(2) "whereas the more religious a society - particularly when that religion is monotheistic - the greater the divisions in a society;"

Got to particularly disagree re the "particularly when that religion is monotheistic" bit - have you visited Hindu India recently? Not exactly a unified country!

Hope these comments sound like they come from a gentle dove! lol
