DNA to 'Come' or 'Go?'

Question: What is the first verb in Jesus' great commission (Matthew 28:20)
That is right we are told to "GO ... therefore and make disciples of all nations". Simple isn't it?

Why then have we continuously expected people to 'come' to church, to come to us?

Jesus' model for the Church is for the Church to Go! This verb should run through our veins, should be our reason for being, our very essence/DNA. It's about time the whole church got out there in the community to proclaim to the world the Good News of Jesus Christ.

A church that is not continuously looking outwardly is dying inwardly!

Wow - It never ceases to amaze me on how God works.

A close friend of mine came up to me after service Sunday night and was talking about the very same points you are making here Neil.

There is no commandment to put on fancy musicals and plays and have concert type atmospheres to bring the masses into the church building.

Like you point out.....the word is 'go'.

There is a big deal being made over here in the Southern Baptists Assoc. about how church membership is down...baptisms are down, etc.

They ask why this is and the answer is right before them. We have forsaken the use of the Law and have failed to go out and preach the Gospel to every creature.

We have settled into a comfort zone expecting people to come to us.

"A church that is not continuously looking outwardly is dying inwardly!"

Right on -

good post Neil
Hi Wayne

THanks for your comments. You are right on: "We have forsaken the use of the Law and have failed to go out and preach the Gospel to every creature." Really no more needs to be said - Jesus must be weeping at the church's efforts in the western world.

God bless

Neil
